staying healthy this winter
the weather outside may be frightful, but the fire (inside) is delightful! With winter approaching at full force, what seems like a never-ending influx of stuffy noses and dry skin ensues. we typically spend great amounts of time trying to optimize our health and wellbeing on a grand scale, whether that be through sticking to strict diets or doing intense workouts regularly. but what about the cells and tissues that make ALL of what we do possible? with colds taking over, it’s time we attend to the small, but mighty power of the immune system.
Our immune systems lie at the core of health: they fight off all the nasty pathogens that can make us sick. therefore, we should do all in our power to take care of our immune systems. by doing so, we defend against common colds and viruses that seem menial at first, until they COMPLETELY derail our daily routines and leave us glued to the couch pitying ourselves. Think about it- we try all in our favor to promote gut health to make sure things are running smoothly. We take supplements to ensure that our hair or nails are as strong as they can be. So how can we improve the functions of our immune systems?
Load up on Vitamin C. Citrus fruits aren’t the only major source of vitamin c- hearty veggies like kale, brussel sprouts, and broccoli all have significant amounts that combat disease. This gives you more of a reason make some yummy kale salad.
Take supplements everyday. Whether it be daily multi-vitamins or supplements, it’s always in our favor to add some extra immune support. Try Amla- these supplements provide a plethora of health benefits, such as flushing out toxins and regulating metabolic activity!
Give yourself time to unwind. We tend to catch colds when we over-exert ourselves and don’t take time to de-stress. Catch some Z’s, take a bath, and most importantly, breathe.
Really, it’s that simple! When we don’t take extra care of ourselves, especially with the changing of the seasons, we come down with common colds that hinder us from further attending to our daily routines that promote health and wellbeing. Taking small steps to boost our immune systems, thus repairing our cells and tissues, gives us the opportunity to live our fullest lives...even when it’s 10 degrees outside.
plus, a love letter to my Mom and all other Moms who live their truth!
I consider myself to be an expert when it comes to the LDR.
