I started dieting when I was 12. I tried all the things to increase my “willpower” and “be restrictive” so that I could reach my goal of having a “perfect bod”. Some diets worked in the short time, most failed. When I couldn’t stick to a diet, because of whatever reason, I felt like a big fat failure.
Because I was constantly focusing on diet and food intake, I became obsessed with food. I wanted it all the time, was always hungry, ate large portions and never felt satisfied. This obsession led me to mindlessly overeat which led to a huge sense of guilt as I knew my behavior wouldn’t result in me reaching my goals.
Because of this, I carried a lot of shame around food. I would eat in private. I’d go nuts on holidays, weekends and special occasions, I had little control around it which brought on a lot of anxiety. What it came down to was, I had a very poor relationship with food and I based my mood and self-worth on how successful I had been at my diet that day.
I felt like it shouldn’t be this hard. I was always health conscious- I just had this totally screwed up relationship with food and it was causing all sorts of issues in my life.
This exhausting cycle eventually brought me to where I am today- EMPOWERED EATING. I gave up dieting. Like, fully gave it up and disowned all restrictive behaviors. I allowed myself to eat literally anything I wanted with zero guilt attached. If I craved a piece of carrot cake, Ice cream- no problem. I gained a couple pounds? Whatever. I felt zero judgement of myself and for the first time- I felt completely free.
Then, a funny thing happened. Through this process, I became so in tune with my body, I only ate what made me feel good. A crazy switch happened. I ate when I was hungry, I stopped eating when I
WHAT IS EMPOWERED EATING?
It is my belief that dieting and restrictive behaviors do not work. In fact, I believe diets cause us to overeat, gain more weight, feel less motivated and make us feel as if something is inherently wrong with us once we “fail” at them.
EMPOWERED EATING is a way out of the endless dieting loop that many of us have been stuck on year after year.
Instead of following a strict way of eating or applying restrictive dieting behaviors, you learn how to become in-tune with your body so that you begin to eat the foods that your body is actually calling out for.
EMPOWERED EATING is an anti-diet. There are no “good” or “bad” foods. There are no restrictions. Nothing is off limits. There is no guilt. No shame. No judgement. No regret. This approach to eating will teach you to trust yourself and heal your relationship with food and your body image.
